Ronnie himself will admit that he tended to be in and out of scuffles at school. But an interest in food led to his early career as a chef which appealed because he didn't know anyone else who did it. Eventually joining the brigade at Claridges, he stood out in the brigade of 50 or 60 as both a character, and as a precocious networker with big potential.

Further cooking roles eventually gave way to entrepreneurship when he took the opportunity to join a former Claridges colleague in co-founding Cutty, the fresh fish supplier to top restaurants and hotels.

Very quickly, they found success with an eye for detail and a relentless focus on looking after their customers. From a £400 start-up loan in 1985, they grew the enterprise to £25Mil annual turnover supplying 350 or so business clients by 1999.
